A bank statement brings your expenses and income into the budget, so you don't have to enter them by hand.
Before you import
Create a cash account in the same currency as the statement. Import a hryvnia (UAH) statement into a UAH account, and a dollar statement into a dollar account.
How to import
- Open Net worth → Budget. On the card of the account you want to add transactions to, click "Import".
- Choose "Upload a statement".
- Choose your bank.
- Upload the file. You can upload up to 5 files at once, up to 20 MB in total.
- Review the transactions: categories, transfers, and the rows to import.
- Click "Import".

What gets imported
| Operation in the statement | What Strum creates |
|---|---|
| Purchases, payments, debits | Expenses with a category (Strum suggests one based on the merchant) |
| Credits | Income |
| Bank fee (if there's a separate column) | The transaction's fee |
| Transfer between your own accounts (unambiguous wording) | A transfer, not income plus an expense. Choose the other account in the preview |
| Transfer to a person or a card | An expense or a transfer — you choose for each recipient |
| Currency sale | A transfer to the account that received the money |
Not imported:
- declined transactions — no money was taken from the account;
- transactions the bank hasn't completed yet;
- transactions in a PDF statement dated outside the statement period — they belong to the statement for the adjacent month.
Other bank
If your bank isn't on the list, choose "Other bank (CSV)". At the "Columns" step, specify which columns hold the date, amount, and description. You can also specify time, fee, and currency.
Amounts must be signed: negative for expenses, positive for income.
Preview before importing
- Transfers to people and cards. A statement doesn't show whether a transaction is a payment to a person or a transfer to your own card at another bank. Choose once for each recipient — your choice applies to all of their rows and is remembered for future imports.
- Categories from your rules. Strum remembers which category you choose for a merchant and suggests it next time.
- Merge rows. Select related rows and merge them into one transaction, for example a purchase and a partial refund.
- "Already imported". This transaction is already in the account from a previous import, so it isn't imported a second time.
- Currency sales are marked as a transfer, not an expense. Choose the account that received the hryvnia, or leave it empty.
- Declined transactions aren't counted: no money was taken from the account.
About PDF statements
Strum checks the transactions it reads against the totals printed in the statement. If they don't match, nothing is imported. In that case, upload the statement again, unchanged.
If the statement is a scan or a photo, it can't be read. Download it again from the bank's website or app.
Strum tells you if the statement contains unknown transaction types. Send a screenshot of that message to support, and we'll add them.
UKRSIBBANK: foreign-currency transactions
The card statement shows these transactions in the purchase currency, with no hryvnia equivalent. You'll have to add these rows manually.
Revert an import
In the import history, click "Revert import" to delete the transactions that import created.
Errors
- The statement is in a different currency than the account — choose an account in the statement's currency.
- "Could not recognize the statement columns" — upload the file from your bank unchanged.
- "Legacy .xls files are not supported" — re-export the statement as CSV or XLSX.
- "This cash account … syncs automatically" — the account is already connected to Monobank, so importing a file may create duplicates.
- The account already has transactions for this period — duplicates from previous imports are skipped automatically. But transactions you added manually may end up duplicated. Check them.
