A cash account is your card, a bank account, the cash in your wallet, or an account at your broker. Strum tracks its balance and uses it to calculate your budget and net worth.
Where to find them
Open Net worth → Budget. The list of all accounts is also in your profile (the avatar in the top-right corner) → "Cash accounts".
Accounts connected to a portfolio are marked: "This cash account is connected to a portfolio".
Create an account
- Click "Create new account".
- Enter a name, currency, and opening balance.
The number of accounts depends on your plan.
Transaction types
| Type | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Expense | Money left the account. Pick a category, and the budget updates on its own. |
| Income | Salary, cashback, or other income. Pick a category and an account. |
| Transfer between accounts | Money moved from one of your accounts to another. Add a fee and an exchange rate if needed. |
| Transfer to investments | Money went from a budget account to a portfolio account or to a broker. The budget counts it as "Invested", not as an expense. |
| Return from investments | Money came back from a portfolio account. It reduces "Invested" and doesn't count as income. |
| Transfer between your own accounts | Money came from your account at another bank, or went to it. It's neither income nor an expense. |
| Balance adjustment | Enter the actual balance, and Strum adds the difference as one transaction. |
Many transactions at once
Use "Bulk entry". It works like a spreadsheet: you can paste rows copied from Excel (Ctrl+V) and fill values down (Ctrl+D). Columns: date, type, category, account, amount, description.
Custom categories
If the built-in categories aren't enough, create your own: profile → "Custom budget categories". They're available in transactions, the planner, and analytics. The number of custom categories depends on your plan.
Close or delete an account
- Close — the account disappears from the list, but its transactions stay. You can reopen a closed account.
- Delete — deletes the account and all its transactions.
