Financial goals

A goal turns "someday I'll buy it" into a concrete amount and year. Strum shows how much you've already saved and whether you're on track for your target date.

How to create a goal

  1. Open Financial goals → My goals and click "Create new goal".
  2. Choose what you're saving for: an emergency fund, a home, a car, education, retirement, passive income, or a custom goal.
  3. Name the goal.
  4. Enter the amount and the year.
  5. Choose where the money comes from: one or more portfolios, or a cash account. Progress will be calculated from them.
  6. Review your regular deposits and click "Create goal".

Return and inflation start with sensible default values. You can change them when you edit the goal.

Two goal types

  • Value — the amount you want to have in your account or portfolio by the target date.
  • Passive income — you enter the monthly income you want, and Strum calculates the capital you need for it using the 4% annual rule.

A goal for all your investments

You can link a goal to several portfolios at once. Progress is then calculated from the combined value of all the selected portfolios. For example, link retirement to all your portfolios, and "New car" to a savings account.

Where counting starts

By default, progress is counted from the first transaction in the source. To count from a different date, enter it in the "Start counting investments from" field. Or click "Recalculate from today".

How many goals you can create

  • "Beginner" — 1 goal;
  • "Passive Investor" — 3 goals;
  • "Active Investor" — unlimited.
