Getting started
What is Strum and who is it for?
Strum is a portfolio tracking and investment analysis service for individual investors. It brings stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrency, cash, and custom assets together in one place.
How do I start using Strum?
Create an account with your email address, then add your first portfolio. You can enter transactions manually, import a CSV file, or connect a supported broker.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Strum works in a web browser on desktop and mobile. You can add it to your phone home screen for faster access.
Assets
What can I do if an asset is missing?
Search by ticker, company or fund name, or ISIN. The same asset can have different tickers on different exchanges. If it is not covered by our market data, add it as a custom asset.
What do ticker suffixes such as .DE or .L mean?
The suffix identifies the exchange: for example, .DE is Xetra and .L is the London Stock Exchange. Try the company name or ISIN if the ticker you entered is not found.
How do I find cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrencies are represented as US dollar pairs. For example, search for Bitcoin as BTCUSD and Ethereum as ETHUSD.
Analytics
Which return metrics does Strum calculate?
Strum shows several metrics. Time-weighted return removes the effect of deposits and withdrawals, annualized return makes periods comparable, and realized and unrealized profit and loss separate closed positions from current holdings.
Why can Strum figures differ from my broker?
Differences can come from transactions that have not been imported, price update times, currency conversion, or a different return methodology. Check that your transaction history is complete before comparing results.
What does benchmark comparison show?
It compares the cumulative return of your portfolio with a selected market index over the same period, helping you assess performance in context.
Portfolio
How is total portfolio value calculated?
Portfolio value is the sum of each holding multiplied by its latest available market price, plus linked cash balances. After markets close, the latest closing price is used.
How many portfolios can I create?
The number depends on your subscription plan. The free plan includes one portfolio, while paid plans provide higher limits for separating accounts or strategies.
Can I enter transactions manually?
Yes. You can add, edit, and delete transactions manually at any time. This is useful for brokers without automatic synchronization and for correcting imported data.
Net worth
What is included in net worth?
Net worth combines your investment portfolios, cash accounts, and custom assets, then subtracts liabilities you have recorded.
Can I track assets that do not have a market price?
Yes. Add real estate, private investments, vehicles, or other property as custom assets and update their values manually.
Financial goals
How does financial goal planning work?
Set a target amount and date, starting capital, planned contributions, and expected return. Strum estimates the progress and contribution needed to reach the goal.
Are projections guaranteed?
No. Projections are planning scenarios based on your assumptions. Market returns and exchange rates can change, so they are not financial advice or a guarantee.
Watchlists
What is a watchlist?
A watchlist lets you follow assets you may want to research or buy without adding them to a portfolio.
Can I create several watchlists?
Yes. Depending on your plan, you can organize assets into separate lists for themes, markets, or investment ideas.
Import and synchronization
Which ways can I use to import a portfolio?
You can import supported broker statements, upload a CSV file, connect a supported broker, or add transactions manually.
Does broker synchronization allow trading?
No. Strum imports portfolio and transaction data for analysis. It cannot place trades, withdraw money, or move assets in your brokerage account.
How should I fix duplicate transactions?
Review the imported transaction history and remove duplicates before relying on performance metrics. If the issue persists, contact support with the broker and import method you used.
Plans and security
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Strum offers a free plan with core portfolio tracking. Paid plans raise limits and unlock additional analytics and planning features.
Can Strum access or withdraw my money?
No. Broker connections are used for read-only data synchronization. Strum does not have permission to trade or withdraw funds.
Does Strum provide investment advice?
No. Strum provides tracking, analysis, and planning tools. The information is educational and should not be treated as personalized investment advice.
