Strum calculates value and return from the trades and prices it has in the system. A discrepancy usually comes down to one of these reasons.
1. Not all trades have been imported
This is the most common reason. Check that Strum has your full history since the account was opened: buys, sells, dividends, deposits, withdrawals, corporate actions. Learn more in the "Import problems: what to check" article.
2. Prices were taken at different moments
Prices update throughout the trading day. Your broker and Strum may show the price as of different minutes.
3. Different methodology
Brokers calculate returns in different ways: simple or compounded, with or without accounting for contributions. Strum has several types of return. Learn more in the "Return types in Strum" article.
4. Exchange rates
- Strum uses its own exchange rates, which may differ slightly from your broker's.
- Your display currency may differ from the currency of your brokerage account. Check it in your profile → "Currency".
If the discrepancy remains after these checks, contact support. Include the portfolio, the asset and both numbers: from your broker and from Strum.
