Rebalancing brings your portfolio back to its target allocation. Strum compares the current asset weights with the target ones and calculates what to buy and what to sell.
Strum only does the math. It doesn't send trades to your broker: you buy and sell yourself.
Rebalancing template
A template is your target allocation. Its weights must add up to 100%.
- Open Portfolios → Rebalancing.
- Create a new template and choose one or more portfolios.
- Add assets and set a target weight for each one.
- Click "Save template".
Several portfolios in one template
For several portfolios, there are allocation modes:
- Aggregate — 100% is split across all assets of all the selected portfolios.
- Within portfolios — each portfolio gets its own weight, with its own allocation inside it.
- Categories — assets are grouped into categories. Each category has its own weight, with its own allocation inside it. For example: "US stocks" — 60%, of which Apple — 40%.
Calculation
- Choose a template and enter the deposit or withdrawal amount, if there is one.
- Adjust the settings:
- Allow sales — turn it off to have Strum suggest only buys with new money. For withdrawals, sales are turned on automatically.
- ⚖️ next to an asset — turn it on to include the asset in the calculation. Turn it off to lock the asset's current weight and get no trades for it.
- Click "Calculate".
After you rebalance, Strum will offer to remind you about the next rebalance.
How many templates you get
- "Beginner" — 1 template;
- "Passive Investor" — 3 templates;
- "Active Investor" — unlimited.
The "Allow sales" and ⚖️ settings and the "Categories" mode are available on the "Passive Investor" and "Active Investor" plans.
"Check the listings in your template"
This warning means the template has an asset that isn't in the portfolio, while the portfolio has a similar asset with no target weight. Usually it's the same fund on a different exchange. Click "Fix in template" to replace the asset in the template with the one in the portfolio.
