How portfolio value is calculated

Portfolio value is:

  • the quantity of each asset multiplied by its latest available market price;
  • plus the balances of the cash accounts linked to the portfolio.

Where prices come from

Prices come from a market data provider and update throughout the trading day. When the exchange is closed, Strum uses the last closing price.

Strum doesn't update prices of custom assets: you enter them yourself. For details, see "Custom assets".

Why the value differs from your broker's

The most common reasons:

  • not all trades have been imported or added;
  • prices were taken at different times of day;
  • currency was converted at different times.

For details, see "Why Strum's numbers differ from your broker's".

How many portfolios you can create

  • "Beginner" — 1 portfolio;
  • "Passive Investor" — 3 portfolios;
  • "Active Investor" — 10 portfolios.

Multiple portfolios are handy for separating accounts at different brokers or different strategies.
