Importing trades: where to start

Importing moves trades from your broker into your portfolio, so you don't have to enter them by hand.

Three ways

  • Upload statement — a report file from your broker. Available on all plans.
  • Connect brokerage — trades come in automatically. Available on the "Passive Investor" and "Active Investor" plans.
  • Enter your holdings — for a few trades, this is the fastest way.

Supported files

SourceFile format
Interactive Brokers (IBKR)CSV
Freedom24Excel (.xlsx), JSON or XML
XTBExcel (.xlsx)
Trading 212CSV
INZHURExcel (.xlsx) or CSV
ICU TradePDF
Any other brokerCSV using Strum's template ("Custom CSV")

Each source has its own article with instructions on how to get the file.

How to import a file

  1. Open your profile (the avatar in the top-right corner) → "Trade import". Or click "Import" on the portfolio page.
  2. Choose "Upload statement" and the source.
  3. Choose a portfolio. All trades from the file go into that portfolio.
  4. The first time you import into a portfolio, answer the question about cash (see below).
  5. Upload the file. You can add several files at once.
  6. Review the trades before importing and confirm.

Portfolio import settings

Strum remembers these answers for the portfolio and applies them to future imports:

  • "Do you track cash in the portfolio balance?"
    • Yes — dividends, deposits, withdrawals and other cash operations are imported too.
    • No, asset value only — for those who only care about their asset positions, not the money in the account. Only buys and sells are imported. Dividends, deposits, withdrawals and other cash operations are skipped.
  • "Do you track non-brokerage cash accounts?" — choose "Yes" if you keep a budget in Strum. Then pick a default account for deposits and withdrawals.

Review before import

Strum sorts the operations from the file into tabs:

  • Trades — buys and sells;
  • Deposits, Withdrawals & Forex;
  • Dividends;
  • Grant Activity — shares from your employer (RSU, vesting);
  • Other — taxes, fees and other cash operations.

Rows with a problem are highlighted. You can fix or delete them before importing.

"Needs matching assets"

If Strum didn't find an asset from the file, pick it manually. The match is saved, and next time Strum applies it on its own.

Importing again

Strum recognizes operations that are already in the portfolio and skips them as duplicates. So you can upload a new report with overlapping dates.

Import log

All imports are listed on the "Import log" page: when, from which source, for which period and how many records.

To undo an import, click "Remove imported transactions" in the import's row. Strum deletes all trades and cash operations created by that import. Trades you added manually are not affected.
